Peppermint Oil, Where Have You Been?

What a day! This weather was less than desirable today, but thankfully tomorrow looks more promising in Chicagoland. For some reason, I felt like it was a great time to talk about peppermint oil since it seems like so many people need an extra dose of energy on gloomy days like today. 

So did you know that peppermint oil has so many fabulous benefits, beyond the well-known headache cure? Honestly, this is one oil that I use more often than not! Can I just say that this is another one of those oils that I feel like you should always have with you, whether it’s in your purse, gym bag, or backpack. In the case where you do have a headache, a little dab on the temples, neck, and sinuses are three great spots to help cure a headache. Since the oils that I use are so highly concentrated, I really do not need that much to make a difference. Depending on the brand of oil you use, you might need more or less than others. 

Since my little one was one of those babies that was teething super early at 3 months old, I was so thankful to have a natural remedy for her sore gums. I know myself after I get a cleaning, my gums are rather sensitive. I've been rubbing a drop or two of oil on mine after I leave the dentist and I've noticed quite a difference. 

I feel like so many of my friends suffer from indigestion, and I’m always suggesting to have a drop or two of the oil, either on the tongue or mixed with water. In cases where I’ve needed it, it’s worked rather fast. Some people dislike the idea of ingestion; thankfully you can rub some on your tummy to have results just as fast. I can't say that I have experience with it, but I know that others have said that it’s great for any kind of intestinal distress as well. So that means say goodbye to cramps and diarrhea! 

These days I am always on the go trying to get things done for the shows, restocking for the stores, teaching, and of course, spending time with the little buzzer, sometimes I just need a little pick-me-up. Since I've been caffeine free for over 8 years now, I've depended on a little dab of oil every once and a while. The interesting thing about peppermint oil is that it improves blood circulation, so it naturally wakes up or energizes your awareness, leaving you energized and focused. I remember using this back in college and how much it helped me late at night when I would get home from work and had papers to write and homework to do. The nice thing about this oil is that you don’t crash afterwards like you do when you are coming off of caffeine. 

Thankfully I don't have any allergies but I know some people have been using peppermint oil in combination with lemon oil to ease the airways that get annoyed and irritated. 
I didn't get a chance to venture up to the north woods as many times as I would have liked to this year, but thankfully when I did go, I always had my oil with me. I never ended up using it when I was there, but I know from previous experience that it’s great if you find a tick in your skin. All you need to do is put oil on a cotton ball and pretty much mother the tick. It’s like magic!

Oh and one more thing! If you ever need to sanitize, you can always use it on your hands as an antibacterial scrub, or even turn it into a spray by mixing it with water for your house.
