Apple Cider Vinegar, Anyone?

Good evening, yogis!

Dad!

Dad!

So now my dad is obsessed with apple cider vinegar. I swear, I have been preaching to my family about the various health benefits of apple cider vinegar for years.  Most of my family members suffer from bad acid reflux and some take medicine for it.   I can remember when I was young I would wake up in the middle of the night to hear my dad yelling in the next room. We would all jump out of bed and run in his room thinking he was having a heart attack!  Nope, it was just heartburn.  He’s a bit dramatic.

The other day when I was over for Sunday dinner he says, "Jen, have you heard about this apple cider vinegar (like it’s a mythical thing) getting rid of heartburn? My buddy has been doing it and says he doesn't have heartburn anymore!" As if he is just hearing about this now and I had never told him that 1,000 times before.  Either way, now he has been taking a shot of it daily and miraculously he hasn't had any heartburn since. He tells me on a daily basis how impressed he is that this works.  Said he even tested it out by eating a whole jalapeno, which I don't recommend that but hey, to each his own.

There are many different kinds of apple cider vinegar and methods of ingesting it.  Acid reflux relief is just one of the many amazing benefits. As my brother-in-law asked, "Does it have to be the hippy apple cider vinegar or can it be the normal kind?" Yes, it has to be the "hippie" kind. The raw, organic, unfiltered, unpasteurized apple cider vinegar has what’s called the ‘mother of vinegar’ in it which is where all of the goodness comes from.  It doesn't taste very good, in my opinion, so I take it in a shot glass diluted with water (60/40 ratio).  Some can drink it in an 8 oz water bottle (1 tbsp apple cider vinegar diluted in 8 oz water). Then there are others that like making a concoction out of it with honey and cinnamon.  As always, ask your health care practitioner before trying any of these.

I am so glad that my dad has finally found comfort from his chronic heartburn and he does not have to take an unnecessary pill to find relief.    How have you used apple cider vinegar to help your heartburn?

Health and lots of love,

Jenny
