Happiness Boosters

SMILE IN A MIRROR! I'm actually extremely grateful that some things didn't work out the way I once wanted them to. Things truly happen for a reason! When looking in the mirror, acknowledge why you value yourself the way you do. Rather than self criticize, start to think about what you value you in yourself.

TALK. Don't forget to listen, too! Strengthen your relationships by both sharing your own stories and listening to your friends. It's important to have that casual exchange with friends rather than just always talking business.

VOLUNTEER. For some reason, every time I help out others, I definitely feel better about myself. Find something you're passionate about and donate your time in that arena. If it turns out you don't have the time to donate, make a cash donation instead.

GET ORGANIZED. Small weekly organization goals seem less daunting than waiting until it's noticeably time to get organized. Clean out your car or organize your closet and see how much more in control of your life you feel.

LAY IN THE SUN. Spending that time in the sun gives your body that opportunity to produce vitamin D. Sunshine makes us all happier as it stimulates the parts of the brain that are associated with positivity and happiness. Just make sure that sunscreen is part of the equation.

YOUTUBE SOME COMEDY. You can pretty much fund anything on YouTube, and for me the two things that I keep going back to naturally involve Ellen. Whether it's the Hello stint or her Jimmy Fallon lip sync, I love watching them over and over again.

DRESS FOR SUCCESS. My brother once told me, "dress not for the job you have but the job you want to have." I'll never forget that and I've stuck to that thought ever since. Even if I'm working from my home office, I've noticed that when I dress like I'm headed out, I'm much more productive, I sit taller in my chair, and I speak with much more confidence. I love this energizing duo that haws lava which is known for internal strength and the master healing stone, quartz

GET YOURSELF SOME FRESH FLOWERS. I started buying myself a bouquet of fresh flowers for the house a long time ago, each time with a new fun reason to justify the purchase. I love going to Trader Joe's and grabbing a colorful mix and putting them on our kitchen island the minute I get home. Looking at those flowers makes me happy!

SPEND SOME TIME OUTSIDE. Even if this means gardening or reading a book in the shade, take some time to enjoy the outdoors. For me this is often a great way to take a deep breath and enjoy the fresh air.

SWEAT IT OUT. Let's be honest, no one ever complained about having an insane rush of endorphins in their body. Beyond looking good, it's an added bonus to have those euphoric feelings after a workout.

BREATHE. I'm guilty of forgetting to breathe in situations that are mentally draining. I've learned to now take the opportunity and soak it in. Acknowledge that moment after you exhale that happens before you inhale again.

TURN UP THE TUNES. I don't know what it is, but I feel like it's impossible to not smile to Beautiful Day by my all time favorite band, U2! Turn on your favorite station, or maybe your chosen band, and listen.

TAKE NOTES. Negative thoughts can be consuming and can simply take over our minds. Getting rid of them sometimes is as easy as writing them down, and then literally crumbling up that piece of paper and throwing it away. In the same respect, write down things that make you happy! There's a good chance taking notes on things that put a smile on your face may help you do just that: smile!

Light + Love,
