The Power of Sound
Whether its the sound of the coffee pot brewing in the morning or your favorite song on the radio, sound plays an important role in our everyday routines. Some sounds are soothing, such as birds singing or water flowing, while others can be more disruptive than you realize. Even though we are used to the noise we hear every day, it can still cause increased stress levels and even damage our immune systems. Sound therapy aims to combat these effects by using therapeutic sounds to heal the body and mind.
What is sound therapy? Singing bowls, tuning forks, voice, and therapeutic recordings are just some of the tools used to perform sound therapy sessions. Typically, you lay on a table or mat in a meditative state where you relax your body, quiet your mind, and slow your breath. The therapist then uses the sound tools to perform the therapy and guide you through the meditation.
What are the benefits? Sound therapy helps with stress, anxiety, sleep, and mood. It has been shown to even assist with physical ailments such as chronic pain.
Sound therapy is gaining popularity and you can find therapists or workshops at most yoga studios or wellness centers.
